It was to go see Chronicle. It’s pretty good, a pretty enjoyable watch. I’ve seen more convincing special effects in student films, but the story and acting were well done enough to get me over that, because it’s not really a special effects kind of movie. It fails the Bechdal Test pretty hard, and the race version even harder, considering it’s a movie with a Black lead, but they wind up killing him off halfway through. Which no one addresses.
But while I enjoyed the movie on it’s own merits, I kind of feel like the whole “teenagers get superhero powers and must decide whether to use them for good or evil” storyline has been pretty comprehensively covered by the eight Spiderman/X-Men movies released in the last decade. Again, it was an enjoyable movie, and they fleshed out the characters a bit better than most Marvel movies, and while the found footage style is starting to lose it’s appeal to me it was a pretty enjoyable movie.
Man, I really suck at selling movies to people.
