I will make sure that I do a cover of the headliners most popular song just to make shit really awkward.

This isn’t really the same, but one time we were going to play a bar where my friend was working, and do an entire cover set of his old band. We couldn’t decide if this was hilarious or creepy (I think a perfect combination of both), so we never got around to doing it.

But this is way funnier.

Oh man! I remember that! It was going to be for his birthday, and we were going to all dress up as him too, which admittedly tips it in favour of creepy.

That said, years ago I was talking to … Red Lemon? I think? Anyway, Louis Walsh’s Rock Band, who were opening for Audioslave of all people. No seriously. Anyway, I floated this very same idea to them, because everybody knows the only reason anyone went to see Audioslave was for the possibility of hearing a RATM song, right? Alas, they explained that getting the gig required some legal mumbo jumbo and signing a contract saying they wouldn’t play any song by Audioslave, RATM or Soundgarden, and the way they said it led me to believe that it was a common arrangement.

I was thoughrally disappointed in everyone involved.

Although, I did go and see Radiohead play, when Asian Dub Foundation were supporting them. At one point one of the DJ’s samplers failed and they had to stop the song, so to keep himself occupied while they fixed it the bassist started playing the riff to The National Anthem, and because everyone cheered (and the DJ was taking his sweet time) they ended up jamming the song for like 5 minutes. It was awesome!
